Another Taiwanese Food for Dinner

I just had a dinner with 2 Taiwanese colleagues. I had Taiwanese pork stew, stir fried fresh bamboo shoot (there is the fermented, stinky kind), and stir fried bottle gourd. The veggies are a little bland, but I went for the fibers.

Bamboo shoot is a vegetable?

Yes…

Bamboo shoot is called Forest Vegetable by the Chinese and Japanese. In the Philippines, it is called labong, and it’s not given much attention considering the bland taste. In fact, even in the farming community I grew up, labong isn’t a favorite vegetable.

All of a sudden bamboo shoot’s image is elevated.

And oh, the black liquid on the top right is cold, sweetened black tea.
